Support Pallium

Pallium Canada is working to transform palliative care in Canada. Your generosity can drive this vital work, ensuring every patient and their family receives the support they deserve.

Together, we can transform palliative care in Canada

Palliative care remains one of the most underfunded and misunderstood areas in our society. Despite the proven benefits of the palliative care approach, many never benefit from it or receive it too late. Often mistaken and described as the last weeks or days of life, the palliative care approach aims to reduce suffering and improve the quality of life for people who are living with chronic or life-limiting illnesses, their families and caregivers. Without early and equitable access to palliative care, many patients and their families suffer needlessly, sometimes for many months and even years.

Our vision and plans are ambitious, but they are achievable. The future of transforming palliative care in Canada is bright. With your support, we can continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals and their families.

Advancing palliative care in Canada

With the support of a transformational gift from the J & W Murphy Foundation, we’re advancing palliative care education in Nova Scotia. Together we’re paving the way to ensure that more people have access to timelier, more effective, and more compassionate palliative care.

Our family is very proud to support palliative care initiatives in Nova Scotia with our donation to Pallium Canada. Like so many families, we have faced challenges in accessing palliative care and were very fortunate to be the beneficiaries of compassionate care for our dad in his home from paramedics trained in Pallium’s LEAP™ Paramedic. Our donation continues our commitment to improving the quality of life for those facing life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Why give?

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to finally understand and apply palliative care in the way it should be, to improve its provision, and reshape the treatment and care of those experiencing serious illnesses. It’s time to make palliative care a reality in our communities.

Your support matters. Together we can:
  • Ensure that more frontline health care providers have access to high-quality palliative care training.
  • Support innovative research to improve the quality and accessibility to earlier, more equitable and compassionate care.
  • Build community capacity so that more family caregivers have access to the resources they need.

Impact of donations

Much like providing tools and equipment to health care organizations, Pallium’s donors are equipping frontline health care providers and communities with the tools and resources to provide better care to their patients, and families and caregivers.

We are so grateful to the Samuel W. Stedman Foundation whose donation enabled us to partner with Pallium and train our paramedics who otherwise may have not received this training. The paramedics who took the training voiced that they felt more prepared and had a better understanding of palliative situations, conversation techniques, and the ability to think more broadly and involve outside organizations.

As a Social Worker, I encounter individuals and families dealing with psychosocial challenges related to serious illness and end of life. The opportunity to participate in LEAP Core through a generous donation from The Hodgson Family Foundation has made me feel more confident in being able to provide support and care for the many patients facing such challenges and make a meaningful difference in their lives.

I have been a community health nurse for 3 years and I’ve seen how much families in the community value our support during their loved ones’ end of life journey. To be given the opportunity to participate in LEAP™ Core through a donation from the Saint Mary’s Health Foundation of New Westminster is very appreciated. Please know that this funding supports us to give the best possible care in our community and we are ALL extremely grateful.

We are grateful that as part of The Joan and Regis Duffy Foundation donation to Pallium, Hospice PEI had the opportunity to participate in the Atlas CareMap train the trainer program. Having a resource and tools such as the Atlas CareMap aid us in supporting the work we do across the province while giving the caregivers an easy-to-use tool to help them navigate their caregiver responsibilities and engaging others in their circles to support them.
