Anya’s story

Anya shares her painful experience dealing with a fragmented health care system that provided palliative care only three weeks before her husband, Fred died despite his receiving a diagnosis of an incurable cancer two years earlier. During their journey, few if any talked about death or even alluded to the fact that Fred was dying. They felt abandoned, lost and ill-prepared.

Anya shares her passionate plea for better palliative care — including care that begins during curative treatment and continues through end-of-life; to have someone in charge; to have better transitions; to offer ways for people to provide feedback; and to accept and embrace the truth of death together.
