A palliative care course for health professionals working in the community
Target learnersHealthcare professionals (mainly physicians, nurses, pharmacists but also others) whose primary focus of work is not palliative care but who in the course of their work care for patients with life-threatening and progressive life-limiting illnesses.
AccreditationLEAP Core meets the accreditation criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been accredited for 26.5 certified Group Learning credits
Goals
  • Provides learners with the essential, basic competencies of the palliative care approach
  • Ideal for developing teamwork, promoting interprofessional collaboration, promoting collaboration amongst providers in different agencies who need to work together (e.g. community-based family physicians, home care nurses, community pharmacists, etc.)

  • Workshop format; maximum of 25 learners
  • Length: 2 days or total of 14 hours
Course Requirements
  • Pallium trained and certified LEAP Facilitators
  • Learner to facilitator ratio of no more than 10:1
