An introductory palliative care course for health professionals working in cancer care programs
Target learnersHealthcare professionals (mainly physicians, nurses, pharmacists but also others) who work in cancer care but whose primary focus of work is not palliative care
AccreditationThis event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for 7.25 hours.
Goals
  • Provides learners with the essential, basic competencies of the palliative care approach
  • Ideal for developing teamwork and promoting interprofessional collaboration, promoting collaboration amongst providers in different agencies who need to work together (e.g. community-based family physicians, home care nurses, community pharmacists, etc.)
Features
  • Competency-based
  • Workshop format; maximum of 40 learners
  • Length: 1 day or total of 8.5 hours (excluding breaks)
Facilitators
  • Pallium trained and certified LEAP Facilitators. Facilitators are required to have significant clinical experience in palliative care in cancer care.
  • Ideal learner to facilitator ratio of 10:1 in certain circumstances, may be up to 15:1
