Throughout the last few months, I have gained more confidence in being able to recognize and report changes in a resident’s condition and report accordingly to the nurses or doctors.

Since completing LEAP Personal Support Worker, I have adopted using alternative wording - rather than asking if a client has pain or is in pain. I now ask if they have any discomfort or soreness. In asking this way, I have found that I received much more feedback, including a description of the type of pain, stinging, aching, throbbing, etc.

It is wonderful to have a course that is specifically directed to PSWs and overall, I think it's a good introduction for other health care professionals. I appreciate that it empowers PSWs and gives specific direction as to their role and what to report.
